The January recruitment period is typically a time of feverish speculation and possible major moves. Several notable footballers are being connected to moves out of their current teams. We examine some of the key names that are poised to be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the player available, reports suggest a major transfer is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a £65 million release clause active for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to other options, leaving clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

The English defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a previous transfer to Liverpool collapsing. As his contract set to run out in the summer, this represents the club's final chance to obtain a transfer fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. However, a January departure is considered unlikely, particularly given the manager's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Welsh winger has found starting opportunities limited at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started only a small number of league matches. It is understood the North London club is willing to consider a sale for the correct valuation, believed to be in the region of £40 million. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace additionally showing an interest.

Tottenham rate the Welsh international at approximately £40m.

R. Neves

This Portugal midfielder could be poised for a return to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now just twenty-eight, while his contract ending in the summer, he represents a possible bargain. Teams like Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spain that he would be prepared to accept a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça under the coach Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a winter exit seems highly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a possible suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English striker has continued scoring regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of making the England squad. But, arranging a transfer poses significant challenges. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged huge weekly wages make any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

The energetic English midfielder drew widespread interest in the off-season but remained at Atlético. Having few starts in La Liga this season, he may be keen to secure more playing time ahead of the World Cup. United have been heavily connected, and a return to Selhurst Park, a club he excelled on a temporary deal, is also a possibility, though wage constraints might prove a problem.

Harvey Elliott

Although excelling and being named the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented player has found it tough for game time on loan at Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations regarding playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool before next summer seems to be the only available solution.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish attacker has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing contract running down, a host of English clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are eager to secure the youngster to a lengthy contract but are in a race to retain one of the continent's brightest young talents.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a major move this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing strong competition from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
