The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
