World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
